The National Democratic Congress parliamentary primary for Tamale Central Constituency is underway at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.
A total of 1,551 delegates are expected to vote to choose a parliamentary candidate out of 12 aspirants contesting in this election.
The contestants are:
1. Prof. Alidu Seidu Mahama
2. Mariama Naana Salifu
3. Ing. Aliu Abdul Hamid
4. Prof.Abdul Razak Abubakari
5. Shamima Yakubu
6. Dr. Seidu Fiter Mohammed
7. Dr. Abdul Rahaman Rashid
8. Mulaika Salisu
9. Alhassan Osman Gomda (Naa Simani)
10. Alhassan Mbalba
11. Sadat Haruna
12. Abdul Hannan Gundado
Some 400 security personnel have been deployed to the voting center.
Both the National and Regional executives say they are impressed with the process.
According to the election directorate, voting is expected to close at 2pm despite late start of voting.
Deputy National Communication Director of the party Ako Gunn describes the process as free and fair.
“So far so very good and we hope this election ends peacefully “ he said.
“At the end of the day, we expect all the other 11 aspirants to rally behind the winner,” he said.
