The Gambaga Police in the North East Region have apprehended fourteen individuals for unlawful damage and possession of firearms following allegations of witchcraft against a local elderly man.
According to Police report, in May 2025, the Gambaga Police arrested fourteen suspects at Sakogu – Gbangu near Nalerigu for causing unlawful damage and possessing weapons without proper authorization. The suspects include;

5. Azumah Konkon
6. Dadob Kambatib
7. Kwabona Mohammed Monika
8. Danjel Dajeeb Nanleeb
9. Samuel Duut Laari
10. Fcikuab Konkon
11. Kinansua Konkon
12. Moses Duut Kwabena
13. Nandi Jatika
14. Foariton Jatika
The group has been accused of labeling a 70-year-old man as a wizard responsible for the deaths of two individuals in the Ghangu community. Reports indicate that Kwabena Kwayamic, as the community regent, incited the other suspects to ignite a fire at the victim’s residence, resulting in significant property damage.
A statement by the Police revealed that on June 19, 2025, the Police, through an intelligence-led operation, successfully arrested the suspects and recovered a locally manufactured pistol, a single-barrel gun, three AA cartridges, and four BB cartridges in the possession of suspect Foariton Jatika.
The suspects were brought before the Nalerigu District Court on June 20, 2025, where they were granted bail set at GHS 20,000 each, with two sureties required.
The Gambaga Police have issued a statement urging community members to discontinue the practice of accusing individuals especially the elderly, of witchcraft, emphasizing that those who engage in such actions will face legal repercussions.
