Muslim pilgrims who embarked on this year’s hajj pilgrimage have begun arriving at the Yakubu Tali International Airport in Tamale.

Over 400 of them arrived with the first flight on Friday June 20, 2025.

In all, seven flights are expected to arrive in Tamale with the last flight of pilgrims from Ghana expected back home on June 27.

Government officials and relatives of the pilgrims were at the airport in Tamale to welcome the pilgrims.

Addressing journalist in after the first batch landed, Chairman of the Hajj task force, Alhaji Collins Dauda, praised President John Mahama and his government for organizing the best hajj in the history of the country.

“In the history of hajj organization, the President gave out a Ram and the white cloth used by the male pilgrims to perform hajj. Though a Christian, he has shown that he is a leader for all.”

“Today the first flight has landed, and it will follow till the 7th flight arrives safely and by 27th the last flight of all Ghanaian pilgrims will arrive in Accra,” he said.

He thanked the media and other hajj staff for supporting to make this year’s hajj a successful one.

On May 10, 2025, the first batch of Muslim pilgrims jetted off from the Yakubu Tali International Airport in Tamale to Saudi Arabia.

The pilgrims were drawn from various parts of northern Ghana.

Meanwhile, seven Ghanaians pilgrims died while performing this year’s hajj.
