The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), has called on stakeholders who are aggrieved with the BECE results released by the Counsel to seek legal redress or remarking without delay.
GNAT says WAEC must provide proper explanation for each major decision taken on the examination results for affected persons to understand.
Reacting to the provisional results released by the Council, General Secretary of GNAT, Thomas Musah Tanko said children or guardians can take legal redress if they don’t buy the explanation WAEC provides.
Mr. Tanko said anything WAEC says on the examination is not final and whoever is affected can challenge it.

“By now WAEC should have explained the basis for some decisions they have taken on the examination results released for the public to understand.
“If you feel WAEC has said something and you disagree, legally you can also express yourself. The law allows that and WAEC is aware. What WAEC says is not final. If WAEC says they have cancelled 20 papers, they need to come and explain and if after that the child or the parent feels it doesn’t make sense, they can ask. If they also say they don’t understand, they can use the law,” he told OnuaOnline
The Basic Education Certificate Examination provisional results for the 2022 school and private candidates have been released.
This was announced by the examination body, the West African Examination Council (WAEC) Wednesday, January 25, 2023.
Whilst results for only school candidates would be dispatched to the schools through their respective Metropolitan/Municipal/District assemblies, both private and school candidates can log on to the Council’s website on www.waecgh.org to check how they fared.

WAEC has also cautioned the public not to fall for scammers claiming to better people’s results for them since their scripts can be authenticated.
Meanwhile, at its 33rd Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee for the BECE, 2022, held on January 24, 2023, they agreed as follows:
- Cancellation of the Subject Results of 416 school candidates and 3 private candidates for the offence of either bringing foreign materials into the examination hall or colluding with other candidates;
- Withholding of Subject Results of 38 school candidates pending conclusion of investigations into various cases of alleged examination malpractice;
- Cancellation of the Entire Results of 73 school candidates and 2 private candidates for the offence of bringing mobile phones into the examination hall;
- Withholding of the Entire Results of 11 school candidates pending conclusion of investigations into various cases of alleged examination malpractice.
- Meanwhile, the scripts of candidates from 40 schools in certain subjects are undergoing scrutiny.
- The withheld results of candidates may be cancelled or released based on the outcome
of investigations.
