President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has sent a cryptic message about New Patriotic Party’s fortunes in this year’s elections.

The message was captured in his 67th Independence Day anniversary speech on Wednesday, March 6 at the Youth Resource Center in Koforidua, the Eastern Region capital.

Drawing similarities with the outcome of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), President Akufo-Addo insinuated that if the year has begun with victory for the Elephants, the nickname of the Ivorian national team, it may as well end with victory for the elephants, the totem of the NPP.

“I am sure it is not too late for us to extend warm congratulations to you, Monsieur le President, and your country on staging a most successful AFCON, and the dramatic exploits of your national team that ended in your winning the continental competition, and being crowned African
football champions,” President Akufo-Addo stated.

He congratulated La Côte d’Ivoire and one of the country’s football giants, ASEC Mimosas, who beat Asante Kotoko 2-1 on Tuesday to annex the 2024 President’s Cup.

“As we all can see, the year has begun with the victory of the Elephants,” Ghana’s leader said in jest.

The elephant party in Ghana is hoping to win he third presidential elections on the trot this year.

The party on Saturday, November 4, elected the current Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, as it’s flagbearer.

He will come face-to-face with former President John Mahama in that crucial polls.
