Ewurabena Aubynn, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, whose election declaration is currently being contested, visited the St. Peter’s Methodist Church on Sunday, December 15, 2024, for a thanksgiving service.
Joined by her constituency executives, branch secretaries and party agents, Aubynn and her supporters, dressed in white and adorned with NDC party colours, danced jubilantly, declaring that “the Lord is at work.”
In her address to the congregation, Aubynn firmly declared that she is the elected Member of Parliament for the Ablekuma North constituency. She emphasized that her declaration followed the proper legal procedures, with the Electoral Commission’s authorized officials officially declaring her as the winner of the recently concluded parliamentary elections.
“I assure all voters who entrusted me with their support that their votes will be protected,” she said. “We will resist any attempts by the Electoral Commission to alter the will of the people. The NDC has won the Ablekuma North seat, and no one can change that. On January 07, I will be sworn in as the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, and nothing will change that,” she declared.
This declaration comes after the Deputy Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare, announced on Thursday, December 12, that several constituencies, including Ablekuma North, Tema Central, Okaikwei Central, and Dome Kwabenya, will undergo a recount, despite the Electoral Commission’s returning officers having already declared winners for these constituencies.
Meanwhile, leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has put a challenge to the EC to go to court if it wishes to pursue the matter further, pledging to resist any attempt to alter the results through a recount.
