The Returning Officer for Obuasi East has declared Patrick Boakye Yiadom of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as winner of the parliamentary election held on December 07, 2024 after conducting a re-collation.

Mr. Boakye Yiadom was confirmed winner by a 19-vote margin after the re-collation.

The process, conducted at the Greater Accra Electoral Commission (EC) Office, forms part of nine constituencies undergoing re-collation today, December 21, 2024, following the dispute that disrupted the declaration of the results of those constituencies.

According to the EC official, Boakye Yiadom garnered 18,558 votes to retain his seat, whilst his closest contender, Samuel Aboagye of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) secured 18,539 votes.

Meanwhile, Adjei Owusu Afriyie, an independent candidate, trailed the duo with 424 votes.

The need for re-collation became necessary following some disputes over procedural irregularities which according to the EC characterised the initial collation.

The same EC official who made the declaration at the EC’s head office in Greater Accra had declared the NDC’s candidate as winner of the polls on Sunday morning, December 08, 2024.

This has left many wondering the next action of the NDC since the NPP candidate, Boakye Yiadom, signed the initial results which announced his opponent as the winner of the election.

The EC, is, however, stressing on the need to prioritise transparency and accuracy in ensuring the integrity of the electoral process.

With tensions high and political stakeholders closely monitoring the proceedings, the EC assured the public of its commitment to resolving outstanding issues in the affected constituencies.

Results from the remaining eight constituencies are expected to be announced later today.
