John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) flag bearer, has said he will only accept the outcome of Saturday’s polls if the process is fair.
Amid concerns about the integrity of the electoral process, the former President says the December 07 exercise should be transparent and credible.
Speaking to the BBC in an exclusive interview, the presidential candidate of the NDC said his outfit will not accept the verdict of the poll if it is characterised by violence and irregularities.
He expressed the need to for a free and fair political process for Ghana’s democracy to thrive.
According to Mahama, Ghana’s democracy stands a better chance of growth and progress if the integrity of Saturday’s polls are instilled.
Citing potential issues such as voter intimidation, ballot snatching, use of security to disrupt the process and prevent people from voting amongst others, the NDC’s presidential candidate insisted that any of such actions that undermine the credibility of the process would make it difficult for him to accept the results.
“If on election day, there is widespread ballot snatching, beating of people, the military moving in and intimidating people, and thugs rampaging, you want me to accept that result? It will depend on the transparency and fairness of the process,” he said.
