National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has questioned the rationale behind the promotion of Brigadier General Michael Opoku, saying the act defies logic.
The private legal practitioner cannot fathom why the Short Commission which probed the Ayawaso West Wuogon (AWW) by-election violence, indicted the officer in question, and asked that he be reprimanded, but was rather promoted by the President.
As part of his allegations, Sammy Gyamfi says it is because Brig. Gen. Opoku is now the General Officer Commanding of the Central Command of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), that the likes of Wontumi and others have been boasting of having one million ways of winning elections.
According to him, Brig. Gen. Opoku has been saying that the President has promised to make him the Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces, the reason he has been placed in the Ashanti region to help rig the polls in favour of the ruling party.
Speaking with Captain Smart on Onua TV’s morning show, Maakye, Wednesday, November 20, 2021, he said Opoku has allegedly been saying that the mayhem he caused in Ayawaso West Wuogon is just a tip of the iceberg, promising to slay members of the NDC in the Ashanti region for the NPP to have its way with the rigging.
He described him as the “shadow CDS” of the NPP, saying he is going to repeat what occurred in Techiman South in the 2020 elections.
