The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has solidified its standing by winning five out of nine outstanding parliamentary seats in the 2024 general elections, following the Electoral Commission’s (EC) re-collation of results.
A court order from the Accra High Court asked the EC to re-collate the results, after the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) filed a suit to prevent the EC from doing so.
The NDC had challenged that once the results had been declared at the respective constituencies after the election, the EC had no right to re-collate results to do another declaration at its office in Accra and other police establishments selected for the exercise.
But following the ruling of the court Friday, December 20, 2024, the EC re-collated the results with the NPP securing victory in the following constituencies:
Nsawam Adoagyiri: Frank Annoh-Dompreh has been reaffirmed as the winner after addressing irregularities flagged by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Obuasi East: Patrick Boakye Yiadom narrowly defeated the NDC’s Samuel Aboagye, winning by a margin of 19 votes. This is after the EC official has already declared the NDC candidate as winner on Sunday, December 08, 2024.
Tema Central: Charles Forson of the NPP emerged victorious, maintaining the party’s grip on the constituency.
Ahafo Ano North: Eric Nana Agyemang has been declared winner to add to the NPP’s parliamentary members.
Okaikwei Central: Patrick Yaw Boamah reclaimed the seat for the NPP, overturning the earlier declaration in favour of the NDC’s Abdulai Baba Sadiq.
Ahafo Ano South West: Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah came out victorious after the re-collation.
Techiman South: Incumbent MP Martin Kwaku Adjei-Mensah Korsah retained his seat, affirming the party’s dominance in the area.
The EC’s re-collation process has sparked political tension, with close monitoring from all parties involved.
As the re-collation continues for the remaining seats, the NPP’s momentum indicates a strong showing in this critical phase of the election.
