All political parties and their candidates, together with independent presidential aspirants, will honour a meeting by the National Peace Council today, Thursday, November 28, 2024, to sign a peace pact to ensure the December elections are held peacefully.

The agreement will be binding on the candidates to ensure they uphold peace throughout and post the electioneering period. They will be required to conduct a campaign that will not compromise the peace of the country.

This would ensure the national unity and stability will remain intact after the elections.

Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, Chairman of the National Peace Council, is confident the candidates will partake in the exercise for the peace of the country.

“So far, we believe that all the parties will be there. We have commitments for all of them. We have sent them a copy of the pact for them to study if they have any comments to come back, and so far, we have not had any adverse reactions from any of the parties.

“And so right now what we are doing is putting down appropriations for the various logistics and the things that need to be done for the signing of the pact,” he said on Accra-based Citi FM Wednesday, November 28, 2024.

But it is uncertain whether the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will participate in the exercise or not.

Its Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has indicated that the party will not participate in the act until certain conditions are met.

These include the signatures of key government figures such as the President, the Inspector-General of Police, the Chief Justice, the National Security Coordinator, and the Attorney-General.

As of now, it is unclear whether any NDC representatives will be present at the signing ceremony today.
