The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a stern warning to students against engaging in examination malpractice during the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, June 9, 2025, Director-General of the GES, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, emphasized the need for integrity.
Prof. Davis urged students to focus on preparation rather than rely on leaked answers, commonly referred to as ‘apor.’
“Put in your best effort to excel. Do not rely on leaked answers (‘apor’) or any external support—it may not come, and it certainly won’t help you,” he advised.
He cautioned that invigilators or supervisors caught aiding malpractice will face severe consequences, including possible dismissal.
“We are calling on everyone to support efforts to eliminate examination malpractice. Any invigilator or supervisor caught aiding malpractice will face severe consequences, which could cost them their jobs. We expect good role models in this system,” he stated.
Prof. Davis made this statement while announcing that preparations for the nationwide exams are complete, with the 2025 BECE officially set to begin on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, and conclude on June 18, 2025.
“All is set for the 2025 BECE, which will run from June 11 to June 18. The timetable has already been distributed to all schools, and examination materials have been dispatched to metropolitan and district offices across the country,” he affirmed.
A total of 603,328 candidates, including 297,250 males and 306,078 females, will sit for this year’s exams. This figure comprises both school and private candidates.
To ensure fairness and security, GES and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) will oversee the exams with support from law enforcement agencies.
The examinations for school candidates will take place at 2,237 centers across the country, while fifteen centers, primarily located in regional capitals, will accommodate private candidates.
