A political analyst with the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere, has described as “a bunch of political prostitutes”, a group of former MMDCEs who have denied declaring their support for Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
The former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) who served under the erstwhile New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration had paid a visit to some of the party’s presidential aspirants; Dr. Bryan Abbey Acheampong, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
After their meeting with Ken Agyapong on Thursday, June 19, 2025, the former Assin Central Member of Parliament announced that the former MMDCEs had declared their support for him.

But the MMDCEs, after meeting with Dr. Bawumia, have firmly denied endorsing Kennedy Agyapong’s candidacy in the upcoming race scheduled for January 31, 2026.
Addressing a press conference, former Adentan MCE, Ebenezer Doku, —who confirmed his presence at the meeting— dismissed the claim as entirely inaccurate.
“Kennedy Agyapong invited all of us; I was there,” he said. “But we did not throw our support behind him. His assertion that over 250 MMDCEs came to endorse him is false.”
Mr Doku described the meeting as an informal social gathering rather than a political endorsement event.
“We are reading a statement today on behalf of all of us. No statement was read during the meeting. We spoke, wined and dined, and then we left,” he explained. “Today, we are making this clear with an official statement.”
The group of former MMDCEs highlighted three key points in their clarification:
They did not endorse Kennedy Agyapong during or after the meeting.
No formal or informal support was given.
Reports suggesting widespread backing are false and misleading.
“This is our only official position. Any other claims are wrong and should be ignored,” the group concluded.
Reacting to the statement on Ghana Tonight Monday, June 23, 2025, Dr. Asante Otchere expressed his suspicions, saying he smells a rat.
“These are a bunch of political prostitutes out there who do not really have principle or they are not guided by any kind of principle,” he stated.
The political analyst explained that “if the principle that they’ve put out there is anything to go by:, you went to Dr. Bryan Acheampong, you went to Mr. Ken Agyapong, in all of this, you did not declare. So from the benefit of hindsight, having listened to the views of others from the same rank, I got the impression that some elements within their fold might have stampeded the process, go ahead of themselves to do a kind of declaration.”
He added that some elements within the rank and file of the party might have coerced the said declaration.
“And having listened to both sides, especially Mr. Ken Agyapong, it appears to me that that declaration might have been a forced one or maybe they were influenced one way or the other,” he indicated.
