National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has explained how John Mahama’s 24-hour economic policy is going to reduce the stress and hassle people endure in order to secure passports in the country.

With the office working an 8-hour of 3 shifts per day, Mr. Gyamfi says the stress where people wake up at dawn to queue at the passport offices will be a thing of the past.

The status quo, he noted, is also fraught with delays which he assured would all be resolved with the policy.

“I have seen many people lament the undue delay in the processing of their passport applications. Well, the Mahama 24-hour economy is designed among others to address this problem by ensuring a round-the-clock processing of passport applications (24/7), at all passport application centers across the country.

“24-hour passport services mean that, there will be no more queuing at 4am for basic passport services; no more waiting for 3-6 months for your passport after you have paid for it.

“By operating 24/7 in 3 shifts of 8 hours each, more jobs will be created for the unemployed and underemployed at various passport offices in the country. And, citizens will enjoy better delivery of passport services,” he said in a Monday, June 17, 2024 post on Facebook.

He also espoused on the changes the policy will bring to the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority’s operations.

“Imagine what benefits citizens will get from 24-hour DVLA services, 24-Hour port services, 24-hour Customs Services, among others. Indeed, the TUC was right when it lauded the #Mahama24HourEconomy as a Game-Changer,” he said.
