The Nkawkaw Divisional Police Command has arrested three persons for stealing cartons of sardines.
The sardines were on board a car truck that was involved in an accident at Kwahu Fodua in the Eastern region, along the Accra – Kumasi highway.
The truck with registration number, AA 119CY, was fully loaded with cartons of sardines, and was travelling from Accra to Kumasi. But it overturned along the way, blocking traffic to both directions of the boulevard.
Although the cause of the accident is yet to be determined from an ongoing investigation, preliminary reports indicate the driver attempted to swerve a pothole in the middle of the road, causing the container to tip over.
The crash attracted a large crowd of residents and motorists. While some assisted in efforts to tow the vehicle and clear the obstruction, three individuals were caught removing sardines from the overturned container.
They were immediately apprehended and handed over to the police.
The injured driver and mate are currently receiving treatment at the Holy Family Hospital in Nkawkaw.
