The Asokore Mampong District Court on Friday, September 23, 2022, remanded into police custody three students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUTS) who are standing trial for their involvement in the recent mayhem on campus.

The three, Emmanuel Appiah Amoah, Eugene Noamesi and Kwabena Kwarteng Amaniampong were arrested on bench warrant following Police investigation into the campus violence in August 2022.

They will reappear before the court on October 10, 2022.

In a statement issued by the police, it said “we would like to assure the public that all the perpetrators in the disturbances will be brought to justice.”

Some residents of the University Hall (Katanga) and Unity Hall (Continentals) clashed during the ‘Zulu’ procession of the Hall Week celebration of the latter where properties were destroyed and some students injured.

This was the second mayhem that has bedeviled the university in a space of a few years with the initial one leading to the closure of the institution.

The KNUST mayhem came few weeks after their compatriots at the University of Ghana have had their version where vehicles were burnt and other properties destroyed when Mensah Sarbah Hall residents clashed their collegues from the Commonwealth Hall (Vandals).
