According to eyewitnesses at the scene, the crash happened as the tanker attempted to overtake another vehicle, veering into the path of the tipper truck.
The impact of the collision resulted in three confirmed fatalities and left three others with severe injuries.
Emergency services transported the injured to Holy Family Hospital for medical attention.
