Dominic Aduna Bingab Nitiwul, a former Minister of Defence, has admitted that the previous NPP administration which he served under, sold some lands belonging to the state to private individuals.
However, he contends the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) government sold more of such lands than they did in their era. He says the NDC holds the record when it comes to selling state lands to private individuals.
His comments come on the back of the counter-accusations coming from both ends of the two major political parties over the sale of state lands to party cronies.
Mr. Nitiwul, speaking Tuesday, January 29, 2025, on Accra-based Channel One TV, admitted that both political parties do sell state lands when in power. But that of the NDC outweighs the NPP.
He, however, denied the sale of military lands by the Akufo-Addo administration to individuals, indicating that what the military does is limited private partnerships.
The former Defence Minister also stated that the sale of state lands was started by the NDC under former President Rawlings’ era.
“We have not given out any state lands to anybody. We never, we don’t do that. We can only do private partnerships to some extent. But to sell lands to individuals we can’t. The general question of state lands has to be very holistic.
“If there’s anybody who has taken state lands if you put the two parties together. The NDC has sold more state lands to private individuals than the NPP. All of them are selling under a policy called in-filing. It was under the NDC administration from 1996 to 1998 when that policy was started.”
