A 40-year-old man has drowned in the Ayensu River at Gomoa Panfokrom in the Gomoa East district of the Central region after he went swimming.

The deceased, Daniel Nartey, who according to reports, is suffering from epilepsy, left for swimming and got drowned when the disease manifested.

Residents of the community say Nartey left home on Sunday and couldn’t return. It was then reported to the Gomoa Dominase police station that he was missing.

Speaking to the Assemblyman of the area, Japheth Appiah, he noted a team was tasked to search for the man but proved unsuccessful.

According to him, a young girl who went to fetch water for the farm the next day saw the remains of the deceased and reported to the community.

A visit by the police and the public to the river saw the lifeless body of the man on the river.

“He looks a little mentally unstable and he is also epileptic. He left home in the morning and because he has some friends at Nsuaem, they thought he was there. So when they couldn’t find him the next day, they reported to the police and we went on a search.

“He has a cottage in his farm so we went there and someone came to inform us that a child went to fetch water for farm in the morning and saw his body in the water. We couldn’t preserve it in the morgue because of the state of the body,” he told Onua News’ Nana Yaw Asare.
