A Sunday, August 25, 2024, early morning accident at Eduagyei/Ayensufo on the Cape Coast to Takoradi highway has claimed nine (9) lives.
Eight persons are also on admission at the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital after sustaining various degrees of injuries.
The accident involves a DAF Man Diesel long trailer and a sprinter bus that collided on the way after both drivers made overtaking.
According to eyewitness, the sprinter with registration number GR 6081-18, coming from Joma to Sekondi made an overtaking and collided with the DAF articulated truck which had also overtaken another vehicle from the opposite direction of the highway.
The eyewitness, by name Prince, who was driving the Howo articulated truck says he was overtaken by the DAF trailer and in the process stepped down on the road to give way since two other vehicles have also made overtaken from the opposite direction, making them collide.
The eyewitness tells Onua News’ Thomas Cann that he was on his way from Takoradi to Cape Coast when the just like the DAF trailer that collided with the sprinter bus.“I was coming from Takoradi to Anomabu and I saw this trailer doing overtaking so stepped down for the trailer to pass. Meanwhile, there were two other cars who had made overtaking from this side so there were four vehicles on the road and it collided with one. The sprinter also collided with the cargo car. I was in with my mate and none of us got hurt,” he disclosed.
Meanwhile, a relative of the driver of the sprinter bus, Maame Ekua, who was at the scene explained to our correspondent how the news came across to them.
“We were going to church this morning around 6am when I had a phone call and our security man told me he has heard that my husband’s car got involved in an accident and all the passengers have passed. So we went home and saw many people there and decided to come and have a look. We got here and were told they have dispatched all the people. The car belongs to my husband’s elder brother and the driver is my elder sister’s son.
Meanwhile personal from the Ghana police service are still at the scene to control traffic and personnel from the Ghana ambulance service also at the scene providing medical care for persons with minor injuries.
