Fifty-two outstanding students from across the 16 regions have received the President’s Independence Award ahead of the 68th Independence Anniversary Celebration on Thursday, March 6.

The 52 students, including two visually impaired and two hearing impaired, are from both public and private schools who excelled during the 2024/2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The Vice President, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, presented the awards to the awardees at an event on March 5.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang congratulated the students for their outstanding performance during the BECE and encouraged them to continue to strive for excellence.

“Do not to give up. Aim for excellence at all times as government is committed to providing your needs,” she advised.

The Vice President was happy that the children, in a message to the President, did not only ask for protection and support but recognized the need for them to be ‘’responsible,’’ noting everyone has the ‘’responsibility to build the Ghana we want.’’

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, lauded the students for the pursuing excellence in their academic work.

He said, “the youth need to grow with integrity and discipline.”

As their prizes, the students individually received the presidential award in addition to a lap top computer as well as some souvenirs.

The President’s Independence Day Awards for school children is an annual event to recognise the efforts of students in the BECE. This year’s event is on the theme, ”Reflect, Review and Reset.”
