The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the National Signals Bureau (NSB) and the Nigeria Police Force, have arrested eight suspects in connection with a kidnapping case in the Eastern Region.
The joint operation led to the successful rescue of two female victims who had been kidnapped and were seen in a viral video that sparked nationwide concern.
The suspects were apprehended at various hideouts in both Ghana and Nigeria.
One of the victims, Ama Serwaa Konadu, a hairdresser and decorator, was reported missing by her family from Akyem Asiakwa in the Abuakwa South District of the Eastern region.
She had left home to trade at her usual market but never returned, raising suspicion about her whereabouts.
Days later, her sibling received disturbing naked videos sent from Ama’s usual WhatsApp number.
The videos featured unidentified men speaking with Nigerian accents, indicating that she had been kidnapped.
The next day, the kidnappers sent additional explicit videos and demanded a ransom of GHC500,000 for her release.
Distressed and seeking the safety of their daughter, the family promptly reported the incident to the security services, which led to the joint rescue mission.
