The memories of those born at least before the early 1990s would not be erased from the infamous ‘Kofi Nkrabea’ Ghanaian movie starred by the veteran actor, Fred Amugi.

The movie titled, ‘My Destiny’ is a true event which involved an intelligent young school boy by name Kofi Kyinto, who was sacrificed for ritual money at Sefwi Bekwai in the then Western Region. His name, Kyinto was subsequently replaced by the movie title, Destiny, hence, Kofi Nkrabea.

After over 35 years of the incident, ritual murder has resurfaced at Sefwi Bekwai, which the Krontihene and Acting President of Sefwi Bekwai Traditional Council, Nana Kwadwo Twum II, has berated.

Nana Twum II who is also chief of Sefwi Humjibre in a statement issued from his outfit as the Krontihene of the paramountcy Sunday August 7, 2022, said “after the unfortunate incident of the later parts of the 1980s, i.e. the famous ‘KOFI KYINTO RITUAL MURDER’, the land became safe for all as far as ritual murders were concerned until that one which happened at Baakokrom on the land of Sefwi Bekwai in 2009.”

He says the late paramount chief, Odeneho Gyapong Ababio and his counsel did their best to eradicate the stigma of ritual murder tagged with the people of Sefwi Bekwai.

The result of their efforts, he noted, was positive until recently.

“It is an undeniable fact that the land of Sefwi Bekwai has suffered a great deal of humiliation for the past four decades or more with the unfortunate stigmatization of ‘RITUAL MURDER’.

“It is for this very reason that Nananom of the Traditional Area, led by our late Omanhene, Odeneho Gyapong Ababio, took the bull by the horn to fight this canker with all the force we possessed and could marshall. And it is on record that, the efforts of Nananom in collaboration with the Security agencies over years yielded positive results in preventing such occurrences,” he expressed.

Nana Twum’s statement follows the murder of 27-year-old Martha Tetteh, a resident of Kumasi who was murdered by some ritualists upon her arrival to Sefwi Bekwai to consult a spiritualist on June 27, 2022.

The Police has arrested three (3) persons in connection with the murder already.

The headless body was later found dumped in an uncompleted building at Sefwi Bekwai.

The suspects, Solomon Sam, alias Paa Solo, John Nana Addai, alias Akwasi Kokoreh and Osofo Attah alias Prince Attah, who is alleged to be a spiritualist, were arrested following Police investigations into her murder.

Suspect Solomon Sam, alias Paa Solo, who allegedly introduced the deceased to the self-styled spiritualist, was arrested on July 12, 2022, at his hideout at Bibiani. Further investigation led to the arrest of suspect Osofo Attah, the spiritualist.

During the interrogation process, suspect Osofo Attah admitted to being involved in the crime and mentioned suspect John Nana Addai, alias Akwasi Kokoreh as the one who contracted suspect Solomon Sam to lure the victim to Sefwi Bekwai to consult the spiritualist. The suspect, John Nana Addai was also arrested on July 20, 2022, at Sefwi Atronsu.

The suspects were put before court on Thursday, July 21, 2022, and were remanded to reappear on August 4, 2022.

The body of the deceased was deposited at the Bibiani Government Hospital for preservation and autopsy.
