A labour expert, Austin Gamey, has called on representatives of organised labour on the Board of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to account to workers on why SSNIT is selling 60 percent shares of its investments in some hotels.

Speaking exclusively to our labour correspondent, Daniel Opoku, Austin Gamey is of the view SSNIT should not defend its action in selling the 60 percent shares.

“We think that those who constitute the Board, the directors especially those from organised labour should account, so that we all be at peace,” he said.

The labour expert also raised issues with the bidding process which he said should have included more interested parties.

“How was it then done and how many people applied, this is a property of the owners of the money, and owners are not necessary the state”.

He emphasised on the need for organised labour to live up to expectation in ensuring that SSNIT holds the monies in trust for workers.

“Organised labour is vital, therefore if they do away with their responsibility, it becomes an issue, it is important that organised labour protects the supreme interest of workers.”
