John Dramani Mahama has pleaded with Chief Executive Officers in the country not to exit as others have already done as a result of the ongoing economic turmoil.
He has assured the CEOs that a new NDC administration will put things in place to safeguard their businesses.
Speaking at the 8th CEO Summit Monday, May 27, 2024, John Mahama bemoaned the sad reality of some companies exiting the country due to the poor economic situation caused by the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration.
In his speech, John Mahama said companies like “GAME, Glovo, Nivea, BIC Pen, Dark and Lovely have all shut down. Unilever has relocated its tea production to Nigeria.”
“Amid all this, our public debt has now hit a staggering 658.6 billion Ghana Cedis,” he added.
However, the former President assured the CEOs that “we cannot despair over the poor quality of governance that has served us in the last seven and a half years. I wish to use this opportunity to appeal to you, captains of industry and the investor community, to tarry a bit more. Please don’t leave our country.”
The annual Ghana CEO Summit, founded in 2016, has participants of over 500 topmost CEOs, Heads of State, entrepreneurs, business leaders and policymakers from West Africa and around the world.
The one-day Summit is themed “Reigniting Business and Economic Growth: Charting a Path Forward; Economic Diversification and Artificial Intelligence Transformation. A Private-Public Sector CEO Dialogue & High Impact- Learn.”
John Mahama assured the gathering that “a new NDC administration will work with you to create a conducive environment for businesses to thrive.”
