A late strike by Bechem United’s Emmanuel Owusu on Saturday dampened the hopes of Aduana FC of winning this year’s Ghana Premier League.
It was a crucial derby for the two sides on Matchday 32.
Hosts Bechem United wanted maximum points to inch closer to a Top 4 finish while the visitors wanted the points to send the title race down to the final two games of the season.
However, after over an hour of goalless play, Owusu stepped up to break the deadlock.
His goal separated the two sides and changed the title challenge at the top.
Despite Aduana FC’s loss in the derby, they continue to stay 2nd on the log, at for the next 24 hours.
Leaders FC Samartex 1996 would need to win to stand a clear chance of winning this year’s title.
They would, however, expect Western Region rivals Medeama SC to drop points on Sunday when Heart of Lions visit the Akoon Park in Tarkwa.
FC Samartex could be declared winners if they beat Bibiani Gold Stars, in the unlikely case Lions pick at least a point from the champions.
By the win at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park, Bechem United move 5th on the log with 48 points.
They will play Nations FC in their next game.
Separately, Legon Cities also beat Bofoakwa Tano FC in the other match played on Saturday.
The 1-0 win lifts them to the 9th position on the table while languish in the relegation zone.
