A former National Chair of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has said his party is ready to secure power from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) come December 07.
The former Chairman says the party’s readiness began the very day they were told they’ve lost the polls in 2020 after the Supreme Court’s ruling.
According to him, the branch executives elections were actively involved by the national executives after a debriefing and reviewing of the 2020 polls across the 16 regions.
During a one-on-one with Yaa Titi Okrah on Onua TV’s morning show, Maakye, Monday, June 24, 2024, Mr. Ofosu Ampofo indicated that the structures were built even before he exited office as Chair of the party.
“The readiness of the NDC to win power did not start today but right after the 2020 elections which we believe we won but was taken away from us when the matter ended in court. We debriefed and review the general elections in all the regions even before commencing our branch executives elections.
“National executives of the party actively participated in the branch elections for the first time to ensure the basic structure of the party which is the branch, would be well established. The party had been reorganised from the branches to the region even before I left office as National Chairman,” he explained.
The former Eastern Regional Minister stated that the only structure of the party that had not been reorganised at the time he left office was the national level where new persons were voted to take care of during the internal election that saw his exit from office.
“The only structure which was nonexistent at the time was the national structure which the Congress selected the current executives to take care of. So the journey began immediately after the 2020 elections so when we talk about readiness, it is not about seeing some people together today to say that. You need to put structures in place so I can confidently say that NDC is ready for power in 2024 because we did not rest for a day for the journey towards that power,” he added.
He said the last thing the party did was the naming of the campaign team, and is expecting that they launch their manifesto to seal the processes needed to kickstart the campaign.
Mr. Ofosu Ampofo made his second public appearance on air after seeking medical attention abroad for a yearlong ill-health.
He has promised to lace his boots to support the John Dramani Mahama to campaign to win the elections come December 07.
