The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Wontumi, has said he personally dispersed the other contenders of the Manhyia South parliamentary primary prior to the winner’s speech.

After the Sunday exercise that saw Nana Agyei Baffuor Awuah, a lawyer to the current Member of Parliament, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, winning, all the three other contestants vacated the premises before he delivered his speech.

Unlike in the Ejisu constituency where all the aspirants stood by the winner to deliver his speech, the Manhyia South story was different, with many reading meanings of possible lack of unity into it.

But reacting to the development, Chairman Wontumi told TV3’s Williams Evans Nkum, that, he personally asked them to disperse and not because of any animosity amongst them.

He explained that Mr. Baffour’s victory at Ejisu was to face a by-election against their political opponents unlike this one which is a purely internal affair.

“I had greeted them all and asked them to leave. Lawyer Baffour’s election was to face a by-election. This one is a family election so as Ashanti Regional Chairman, I congratulated them and asked them to leave. I made them greet each other so there is no problem,” he told Evans Nkum.

Nana Agyei Baffuor Awuah has been elected to replace Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the NPP parliamentary candidate for Manhyia South going into the December 7, 2024, election.

The fiercely contested election saw the legal practitioner winning with 376 votes and his closest contender, Nana Owusu Afriyie Prempeh, securing 141 votes.

Akwasi Coker Gyambibi had 2 votes whilst James Owusu Boakye got 7 votes
