An alumnus of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is challenging the reappointment of the Vice-Chancellor of the University in court, saying the authorities failed to follow due process.

The reappointment which takes effect from August 01, 2024, may suffer a setback due to the interlocutory injunction filed by Clement Kofi Ohene Asare.

According to the suit, there were breaches in the reappointment of Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson to serve a second term as Vice-Chancellor of the noble university.

Her reappointment was supervised by the former Chief Justice, Kwasi Anin-Yeboah, who is the Chairman of the University’s Council.

According to Mr. Ohene Asare, there ought to be a seven-member Search Committee constituted to propose candidates for consideration, including an advertisement of the portfolio in the dailies for suitable candidates to equally apply.

But according to the applicant, none of the above mentioned procedures were followed.

He, therefore, described as “unlawful, illegal and unconscionable”, the processes leading to the reappointment of Prof. Dickson to serve as KNUST’s VC for a second term.

Mr. Ohene Asare says Justice Anin-Yeboah and Prof. Dickson are proceeding to act on the purported reappointment despite the illegality of it, necessitating his application for the injunction.

Meanwhile, the Kumasi High Court is expected to hear the case and make a ruling on July 30, 2024.
