Former President and the flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has assured the people of the Upper East Region that his next government is going to focus more on job creation to reduce the unemployment rate among the youth.
The former President, who is currently in the Region campaigning ahead of the upcoming elections, observed that the unemployment rate at the time when the NDC was in power was around 8%.
However, he noted, it currently stands at 15%, seven years after the NDC left office.
Mr Mahama blamed the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration for this and stressed that the economy has been mismanaged, hence the hardship Ghanaians are suffering.
As part of his campaign tour in the Upper East Region, the former president toured constituencies like Bawku Central, Pusiga, Garu and Tempane.
He has assured the area of a new region to help curb the security situation.
“Your Member of Parliament, I’m aware, has written a letter to the Speaker, requesting that another region should be created out of the Upper East Region to cover the six constituencies in the Bawku area for reason of bringing government closer to the people [and] that’s the principal reason for which they create new regions and new districts.”
He is expected to continue his tour in the upper east region up to Tuesday 6th August 2024 before he brings his campaign in the region to an end.
