No Ghanaian athlete will be competing at this year’s World Athletics U-20 Championships to be held in Lima, Peru.

The list of all athletes to compete at the Championships was released by World Athletics over the weekend.

About 1,700 athletes from 134 nations will participate in the competition from Tuesday, August 27 to Saturday, August 31.

It is unclear if the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) did not present any athlete for the championships.

Ghana has been represented at the championships in the past with the likes of sprinters Janet Amponsah and Emmanuel Dasor rising through the ranks.

With no Ghanaian athletes at the U-20 level, a lot of questions are being asked about the state of athletics in the country.

At the recently-held Summer Olympic Games in Paris, Ghana failed to make a mark in track and field despite getting two athletes in the semi-finals of the 100m.

Benjamin Azamati and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu made the penultimate stage in the individual event but failed to make a mark in the 4x100m relay event.

The relay team, despite finishing last but one, was disqualified for a baton change violation.
