Former undisputed light-heavyweight champion Braimah Issah Kamoko, popularly known as Bukom Banku, has lashed out at the current President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) as the cause of the seeming nosedive of the sport.

Bukom Banku says Abraham Kotei Neequaye’s boxing league is producing poor boxers for the country.

Ghana for the first time in two decades failed to present boxers for the Olympic Games.

After Samuel Takyi won Bronze at Tokyo 2020, there were no boxers in Paris for the 33rd Olympics.

A sport that has produced all but one of the all-time medal haul in the history of the Games for Ghana, boxing is considered the brightest discipline for the country at any global multi-sport event.

However, recent times have been disappointing for the country as it cannot currently boast of any world champion.

Speaking on ‘Ring Side with Romeo Oduro’, Bukom Banku says Kotei Neequaye “is spoiling the boxers”.

“You see a boxer who doesn’t know anything, not even how to throw punches and he turns professional,” he stated.

He said during his time, he spent five years at the gym as an amateur before going professional.

He said aside Ike Quarter and Azumah Nelson, he could be counted as one of the best boxers that country has produced.

He is calling for reforms in the discipline to salvage it from total collapse.
