John Dramani Mahama has slammed the governing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for its flag bearer’s media encounter, saying it was made with “devious intention.”

According to Mahama, the NPP decided to undertake the encounter with the media in order to shield the manifesto launch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The NDC launched its Manifesto Sunday, August 24, 2024, at the University of Education, Winneba. Following the announcement by the NDC to launch its manifesto, the NPP, which had launched its own the week earlier, also scheduled an encounter with the media for its flag bearer.

Addressing party members at Ada as part of his campaign tour to the Greater Accra region Tuesday, August 28, 2024, John Mahama stated the Vice President’s fumbling at the event was evident of the negative mindset they had against the NDC.

“We announced that we are going to launch our manifesto on the 24th of August. Immediately, our opponents announced that they were going to do, you know, the intention for doing that media encounter, the next day after we had announced our manifesto, was to turn the attentions of Ghanaians from the NDC manifesto.

He continued that “that was the main reason that they decided to do a media encounter the very next day after we launched our manifesto. But you see, when you do something with devious intention, it backfires on you. When you do something with devious intention, it backfires on you.

“You know how to tell when somebody is lying, people who are smooth talkers, who can speak rat-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta like machine gun. The time when they become stammerers and they start stammering, you know they are lying.

“Somebody who can speak ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta like AK-47, suddenly, media encounter… the person started stammering and you can’t tell the head or tail; the fundamentals are weak,” he teased.

He advised that people do things with truthful intention since “the basic principle of leadership is truth and honesty.”

“If you want to be a good leader, you must be truthful and honest to your people. And so, NDC would always speak the truth. And you see, for me, I know that when you are ill, the first step towards getting your health back, towards being cured, is to diagnose and understand the sickness that you are suffering from,” he stated.
