The flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has been deeply immersed in propaganda, especially in the area of job creation.
The former President says he can’t fathom how a government that has increased unemployment rate in just 8 years from 8.4% to 14.7% can claim it has created over 2 million jobs.
According to Mahama, although reality and propaganda are two distinct features, the NPP administration is neck-deep into the latter so much such that it has become a part of it. He says the job creation claim by the government is a lie, indicating the supposed jobs are only found in books and not on the grounds.
Speaking in Sunyani during his tour to the Bono region, John Mahama likened the NPP to propaganda, saying it is the reason it can’t distinct lies from facts.
“Youth unemployment is a main issue. The youth came out in their numbers and it is clear that it is a ticking time bomb for us as country. We need to accelerate our economy, invest in the areas of the economy that will provide decent and sustainable jobs for young people and we need to do that urgently,” he stated.
“Currently the currently government has no panacea for youth unemployment because they’ve taken the unemployment rate from 8.4% to 14.7% in just 8 years and so when they talk about creating 2 million jobs you ask, where are the jobs?
“If unemployment rate has risen to 14.7% then you couldn’t have created 2 million jobs. But we all know that this is a government that is used to propaganda and when you do propaganda, you must keep your propaganda from reality.
“Unfortunately for this government, they are lost in their propaganda because they believe it and so they repeat it like a nursery rhyme. And they believe everything that they say even though on the grounds, the reality is different,” he told a gathering of party faithful,” Mahama stated.
