German Thomas Tuchel has been announced by England as the new Three Lions head coach.

The former Chelsea manager takes over permanently from Gareth Southgate, who resigned following the failure of the team to win Euro 2024.

England U-20 manager Lee Carsley was handed the team as interim manager.

He has been asked to take charge of the UEFA Nations League games against Greece and Republic of Ireland in November.

Tuchel will, therefore, officially begin duties in 2025.

“I can promise you I’m very excited,” he said in his first statement after the official announcement on Wednesday.

“I’m very honoured and I will do everything that we have to qualify for the World Cup, first of all, and we have a successful World Cup and try and have a second star on our shirt.”

The former PSG manager will be assisted by Anthony Barry.
