Chiefs in the Amansie traditional area in the Ashanti region have complained of their bad roads due to neglection by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government for the past 8 years.
The neglection, according to the chiefs, has left them with no motorable road over the period.
They have therefore chastised the President Akufo-Addo for leaving them in such condition.
Two of the chiefs, Nana Akowua Akwamuhene of Manso Datano and Oheneba Kwadwo Ntoso ll, Bekwai Densuahene, have expressed disappointment with the lack of progress in addressing the poor road, despite the NPP government’s promises.
The chiefs expressed disappointment with the poor state of Mansie roads under the Akufo Addo government, implying that the eight years have yielded no benefit to the people of Amansie.
“The NPP government has been in power for eight years, and we have not seen anything since the era of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. Manso-Datano specifically, we have not seen a tarred road before, so what kind of sin have we committed?” Nana Akowua stated.
The chiefs illustrated their frustration to National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, during his campaign visit to the Amansie traditional area.
Residents from the various communities within the Amansie area bemoaned that due to the bad road network their businesses have been adversely affected.
“The NPP government has taken us for granted for a long time because they know no matter who ran, we would vote for them, which is why they deprived us of development,” some residents lamented.
On his part, Mr. Asiedu Nketia stated that the NPP has abandoned various road projects initiated by the erstwhile John Mahama government before being voted out of office, contributing to the current state of their road networks.
He urged residents not to be misled by the governing NPP, which may try to sway their votes by bringing in road construction machinery just days before the general elections.
“I heard Dr. Bawumia says he has now seen the state of Manso’s road network; is he saying he did not see your road during the 2016 and 2020 campaigns?” Asiedu Nketiah asked.
His visit was made on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, where he toured areas like Manso Abore, Datano, Tweabiase, and Abodom, all located in the Amansie area of the Ashanti region.
