John Dramani Mahama, flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has charged members of the party not to relent on their vigilance as the December polls draw near.
He says whereas the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is “colluding with the Electoral Commission to rig the elections”, the NDC will not give them the opportunity to do so.
According to Mahama, the NDC has no intentions of cheating in the elections, and wouldn’t sit aloof for same to be done to them.
The former President was speaking in the Sekondi constituency of the Western region Monday, November 25, 2024, where he made allegations of some 65 card holding members of the NPP who have been recruited to the EC as temporary staff for the upcoming polls in the Gomoa East constituency of the Central region.
He further alleged that same persons have been fished out in the Juaboso constituency who are NPP members recruited into the election management body for the December 07 exercise.
He called on the gathering and all members of the NDC to be extra vigilant at the polls, assuring them that the party wouldn’t allow itself to be cheated just as it has no intentions of doing same.
He, however, urged the EC to expunge the said persons from its list when they are found to ensure the process becomes free and fair.
“We all have to be vigilant and keenly observe the polls because we can vote well but some thieves will rig it. I’ve seen a video from Gomoa East which contains a recording showing that one NPP MP and his executives submitted 65 party members to an EC official who added them.
“So if such a person is the one at the polling station, do you think he will allow the polls to be fair? That’s why we have always been saying that there is a collusion between the EC and the NPP to rig the elections and we have that evidence from Gomoa East. We expect the EC to replace those 65 persons when they are fished out.
“It is same in the Juaboso constituency where some NPP members with party cards have been fished out from the EC officials. We in the NDC are very alert this and just as we won’t cheat anyone, we won’t allow anybody to cheat us too,” he stated.
