The Winneba High Court has remanded an independent parliamentary candidate in the Effutu constituency into police custody.

The Thursday, November 28, 2024 ruling was made by Her Ladyship Justice Marriam Agyeman Gyasi Jawhary.

The independent candidate, Louisa Buabeng, was initially arrested on November 20 at the court premises after a hearing related to an election matter she had filed.

Madam Buabeng was rearrested on Wednesday, November 27 and put before the court the following morning.

According to a report by Accra-based Citi FM, several voter identification cards were found at the residence of one of the aides of Buabeng.

She has therefore been charged with conspiracy to commit crime whilst the aide has been charged with unlawful possession of documents.

The court has remanded the candidate into custody for four days, and she is expected to reappear before the court on Monday, December 1, 2024.
