The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has described herself as a peaceful person contrary to how some people see her.
The lawmaker says she only reacts to issues after she has been provoked by others, indicating that the assertion about her being hostile is erroneous.
According to her, she has been in the news for various reasons as a result of her opponent who drags her name in issues that she has no knowledge of.
After casting her ballot at the Roman Centre at Kpormetey in the Awutu Senya East constituency, the three-term MP who is seeking a fourth term noted that she contested with two males in her first two attempts in the constituency peacefully until a female emerged from the NDC in 2020.
She says Awutu Senya East has been in the news because the current candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is troublesome which makes her (Koomson) respond to some of her deeds to create that impression of her being a bad person.
Hawa Koomson was speaking with Onua TV/FM’s Akua Sarpomaa in an exclusive interview, when she made the comments.
She was responding to an allegation of thumb printing of some ballot papers in a hotel which she said was even outside her constituency. Reports were rife on social media about some military officers captured at a hotel which was later discovered to be in the Ga South constituency.
The Ga South Municipal Chief Executive, Joseph Nyarni Stephen, has, however, confirmed that the officers were sent to the hotel by the municipality.
Meanwhile, Hawa Koomson says her opponent is dragging her into the issue even though it has nothing to do with the constituency.
“That tells you the type of person I’m contesting. Something happen in Ga South and you drag me in. She always wants to drag me into things. I contested with men in 2012 and 2016 and nobody heard of me but all of a sudden, this woman comes and I’m everywhere.
“If you touch a mad man, he will react. It is same as a sick person. 2020 I decided not to mind her but today I’ve decided to mind her. If you don’t offend me, you won’t know that I’m a wild person,” she stated.
Voting has started across the country in over 40,000 polling stations in 276 constituencies to elect Members of Parliament and a President.
