As the world celebrated Boxing Day on Thursday, December 26, 2024, some beaches were teeming with young people from near and far enjoying the holiday season.
With some swimming and others engaged in football among others, these were some of the sights and sounds of revelers, away from the ubiquitous masqueradors sounds.
In our interaction with them, some revealed it was their first time spending the Boxing Day at the beach, making it more memorable to them.
For Evelyn, a resident of Tarkwa, this was a maiden visit, and she was thoroughly enthralled. “This is my first time here, and I’ve never been to a place like this,” she exclaimed. “I’m having an absolute blast! The people here are incredibly warm and welcoming.”
Another lady, who traveled from Kumasi shared her delightful experience, saying: “I’m truly having the time of my life! This is not only my first time visiting Takoradi but also my first time at the beach here. It’s a very lovely place, and I adore the environment. To those watching, I’d like to say: ‘don’t just stay at home and miss out on life’s adventures. Try to travel, explore, and experience different lifestyles. Merry Christmas!’.”
Another observation was this church group which had chosen to actively engage its youth at the beach. The leaders disclosed that they wanted to provide a fun and uplifting experience for the community’s young people.
Emmanuel Esoung, a teacher from the Bomba community, shared his heartwarming initiative, saying: “Many children in my village had never experienced the thrill of visiting the seashore or exploring a mall before. So, I took it upon myself to provide them with this opportunity, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to see how happy it’s made them.”
Another Sunday School teacher from Dwomo Methodist Church, Isaac Quayson, who organised a trip for some youth to celebrate the Boxing Day, echoed the same sentiment: “Most of these young people don’t often get the opportunity to travel, so I decided to organise this trip during the festive season to put some smiles on their faces. I’m thrilled to see that it’s not only brought them joy but has also helped boost their confidence levels.”
Well, the fun continues in Takoradi as many choose different ways to enjoy the yuletide.
