Some members of the Awutu Senya East branch of the National Democratic Congress are demanding for an apology from the party’s central regional chairman for making what they describe as a divisive comment.

The Chairman, Prof. Richard Kofi Asiedu, who graced the victory party of the Kasoa MP-elect Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunnor while congratulating the mp-elect mentioned on record that, it took his strong will and resilient for the candidate to secure victory in the just ended elections.

Referencing events that preceded and characterized the party’s internal elections which saw the candidate emerge as winner, the regional chairman also alleged that some elements within the NDC including those closer to the mp-elect never wanted her to win the elections.

“Many did not believe, including some of the party members that worked with her. But I Kofi Asiedu believed and supported her. She received many threats but I didn’t fear because I haven’t harmed anyone. My only crime was to find a good person for a Awutu Senya East.

“I had to change the venue for her primaries four times due to security intelligence I was always picking. I came to Kasoa after her victory about 20 times because here is a tough place and the person so close to her was fighting against her and decided not to give way because I was stronger than that person,” Prof. Asiedu had said.

Following his comment, a group of party supporters known as the New Era ASEC is making a strong demand for the regional chairman to retract and apologize.

In a statement issued by the group, they described the remark as being divisive and finger-pointing while also regarding the statement as an admission of bias on the part of the chairman.

They are demanding for the chairman to apologize to the party while entreating party leadership to caution him as they believe he is placing the party on a path of destruction.

The regional chairman when contacted at the back of this controversy is however questioning the authority of the group as he says they are not recognized by the party.
