A 65-year-old philanthropist, Alhaji Yakubu Ayaana, is taking an approximate 250-kilometre on foot from Kumasi to Accra.
This is to honour the President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, whose inauguration is set for Tuesday, January 07, 2025. Mahama’s inauguration follows his election victory on Saturday, December 07, 2024.
Yakubu, who is a known philanthropist, is expected to arrive at the national capital, Accra, on Tuesday, January 07, when the inauguration of President-elect Mahama is set to take place.
The philanthropist’s gesture is also a celebration of Ghana’s vibrant democracy and a heartfelt tribute to Mahama’s leadership.
This is not the first time Alhaji Yakubu is embarking on such symbolic journeys. He is reported to have embarked on a similar one in 1997 to commemorate the swearing-in of former President Jerry John Rawlings, for his second term.
He is equally remembered for taking a 16-kilometre peace and health walk in Tamale on Independence Day to promote national unity and encourage healthy living.
He is expected to arrive in Accra by the set date to carry out his vision of witnessing the presidential inauguration and congratulate the President-elect for his victory in the just-ended elections.
John Mahama obtained 56.55% of the total valid votes cast with 9 constituencies to spare, as at the time the Electoral Commission (EC) was declaring the winner of the December 07, 2024 elections.
Many expect Mahama to deliver following the abysmal performance of Akufo-Addo leading to the overwhelming victory of the Mahama and the NDC in the December polls.
He is expected to fix the economic challenges that has bedeviled the state and make things work to alleviate the hardship on the people.
