Leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has no locus to criticise the administration of John Dramani Mahama, when members in their erstwhile administration have clearly shown they have no clue in governance.
This assertion, from Ransford Van Gyampo, a Professor of Political Science at the University of Ghana, he says, is due to how poor the immediate past administration of Akufo-Addo fared in delivering on its mandate.
He says the party leadership’s attempt to prematurely criticise an administration which is not even a week old will not make the NPP any relevant political party.
“In my view, the relevance of the NPP now won’t lie in its failed officials forcing themselves to quickly criticise the administration of John Mahama when they themselves they don’t know how to govern,” he said Saturday, January 11, 2025, on the KeyPoints on TV3.
According to him, he rejected a paper presented to him for review as an expert in governance, disclosing that the said document centred on criticism from the opposition on the current administration which is less than a week old.
He contended that until the NPP demonstrates any mastery by deeds in governance, they have no locus to criticise Mahama.
“So, will you be able to critique the administration and governance style of John Mahama when you yourself you don’t know how to govern? But when clearly you have shown that you have no clue when it comes to governance. Then, respectfully, you must keep mute,” he stated.
The governance expert advised the NPP to rather focus on rebuilding its party which risks disintegration and leave the job of criticism to the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and some experts like himself.
“…and especially, when your own party is in tatters, risking disintegration, focus on how you’re going to be rescuing the soul of your party and leave that job of offering criticisms to CSOs and some of us,” he counseled, adding that some of them have permanent interest and not permanent friends, and would therefore criticise constructively, irrespective of the party that is in power.
