The controversial statue of former President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo located at the roundabout of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi has been destroyed by some faceless individuals.

The incident, according to Police sources occurred around 1:30am on Monday, January 13, 2025.

 

Pictures available indicate the entire statue has completely been destroyed. The head is seen lying down with parts of the statue scattered all over.

The statue which was unveiled on November 6, 2024 to honour the former President was met with opposition from some residents of the Twin City and the country at large.

They claim the former President has done nothing in the Western Region to merit such honour.

The statue was partially destroyed in December 2024 with repair works being carried out a few days after.

The statue has since remain a symbol of contention in the Twin City.

It is unclear the exact cause of the complete destruction. Whilst some claimed it’s deliberate, other indicate it could be as a result of substandard materials used for it’s it’s construction.
