The traditional ‘Black Stool’ symbolising authority in the Sokoban Krofrom Palace, a suburb of Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital, has been allegedly stolen by suspected thieves together with some valuable items.

Sources from the Adumasa royal family indicate some heavily built men stormed the Palace on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, when the new chief and some other family members visited the Manhyia Palace to swear the oath of allegiance.

Before their return from the Asantehene’s Palace, the Sokoban Palace had been invaded with the ‘black stool’ stolen.

The “black stool” in Akan culture, refers to a sacred throne, a revered symbol of authority, leadership, power, and spirituality, and is considered a sacred object that embodies the history, traditions, and values of a royal family.

Speaking on Ghanakoma morning show on Akoma 87.9FM in Kumasi with Sir John, a member of the royal family, Kwadwo Antwi, said the situation has brought tension in the community and the royal family.

He said they were around when the group stormed the palace to take away the symbol of authority.

“We were here when six ‘macho’ (heavily built) men surrounded the palace with machetes and guns to vandalize the metal gate of the palace and bolted with the black stool and other items,” he claimed.

He said all the doors in the rooms of the palace were vandalised. “Our old men who tried to confront them were beaten mercilessly, and the women were in mourning as they took away our valuables,” he stated.

According to him, family members are in a state of fear, as they called on the security agencies to intervene.

The police has already visited the palace as they launched an investigation into the matter. He was certain that justice will be served.

He also called for calm among the people of the community, especially the royal family members.
