Leader of the Minority in Parliament, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, is questioning the low women representation in President Mahama’s government.
He says although the President promised to be ensure gender equity in his administration, the 19-member cabinet he presented recently was full of men with only two women, defeating the very promise he made to women.
Seconding the Majority Leader’s move for the acceptance of the motion to adjourn the House after the President’s address, the Effutu lawmaker questioned the absence of several women on his cabinet including the daughter of the founder of the NDC, Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings.

Afenyo-Markin further listed some other women in Parliament from the NDC caucus, asking the President why they are all absent in his administration.
“Mr. Speaker, His Excellency the President has announced to us a cabinet of 19 with only two women. The daughter of the founder of this NDC, Zanetor Rawlings, is missing; Hajia Lardy is missing, Helen Ntorso is missing, where are the women in this government?” he quizzed.
He went ahead to blame the Vice President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, for sitting aloof for women to be sidelined in the Mahama government.
“The Vice President is part of the government and we are seeing only two women in cabinet and the Vice President is sitting there. In percentage terms, we have only 10% of women in cabinet,” he added.
