President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, made a surprised visit to the training session of the Black Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium ahead of their upcoming world cup qualifiers.

The senior national team will be meeting their group counterparts for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Chad and Madagascar, on Friday, March 21 at the Accra Sports Stadium and on March 24 in Madagascar respectively.

Speaking to the playing body and technical team, the President assured the team that the nation has not given up on them despite their failure to qualify for the AFCON and even exiting the tournament at the early stages in their last competition.

He acknowledged the struggles the team is going through and expressed optimism of overcoming them.

“We didn’t qualify for the AFCON. But even when we qualified for the AFCON, we crashed out very early the last time. And so we haven’t given up on you.

“We still believe that the Black Stars can find its glory again. And it’s dependent on you, the technical team, and the management committee.” he stated.

He also admonished the players to give in their best since their ability to overturn the situation largely depends on their commitment despite the nation’s support for them.

“The goals will come from these feet that are right here. And so it takes sacrifice. It takes strength. We all like to watch you when you play for your teams, and we expect that you bring some of that dedication to the national team.” he said.
