A couple has been arrested by the Awutu Bereku District Police Command for abandoning their son in a bush at Gomoa Nkwantanan.
Although the motive behind the act is unclear, the nine-year-old boy, according to sources, was punished for his alleged stubbornness.
According to James Mensah, a resident of Nkwantanan who rescued the boy, he was found in chains abandoned without food for two days.
He says the father abandoned him in the bush to die.
“I met the boy in the bush with a chain on his leg. I questioned why he had a chain on his leg, and he said his father chained him and left him in the bush to die. I then reported to the Awutu Bereku Police Station. The father was invited by the police and has since been detained pending investigation,” the eyewitness narrated to Citi News.
Reports indicate the couple, Bismark Odoi, 35, and Saviour Arthur, 33, absconded after committing the crime, but were later apprehended by the police to aid in investigations.
In the nine-year-old victim’s narration, he said the father insisted on punishing him for arriving late to school.
“I didn’t go to school early, and my father met me and questioned why. I explained to him, but he insisted on punishing me. So he put a chain on my leg and took me to a bush nearby, leaving me there for two days. I spent two days in the bush chained to a tree,” the boy recounted.
The matter is currently before the police for investigations.
