Retired Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana Nasiru Sulemana Gbadegbe has passed on aged 74. The unfortunate demise occurred on Saturday April 5, 2025 after a short illness.
He joined the Supreme Court in 2009 and served till December 8, 2020, when he attained the retirement age of 70. Prior to his time at the Supreme Court, he was a Justice of Appeal between 1999 and 2009. He was also a High Court judge from 1989 to 1999.
Justice Gbadegbe was one of the nine judges who handled Ghana’s 2012/2013 election petition. His colleagues who served with him on the bench described him as a stickler for procedure and one who believed lawyers and practitioners must stick to ethical standards all the time.
At a ceremony to mark his retirement from the Supreme Court in December 2020, then Chief Justice Kwasi Anin Yeboah described him as one who had served his country with commitment
“His service to the country has been long and committed. He has brought a fire that cannot be quenched,” he stated.
Justice Retired Gbadegbe served Ghana for more than three decades.
