The Western Regional Registration Officer of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Enoch Ben Sackey, is appealing to the public to return any Ghana Cards that are not theirs and are currently in their possession.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Connect News in Takoradi, he cautioned that using someone else’s Ghana Card is practically impossible as all transactions with the card require biometric verification, specifically through fingerprint authentication.
“We want to urge the general public that if you find someone’s lost card, send it to the nearest police station or any National Identification Authority office. When you bring it the NIA officials will query the system to pick the card holder’s number and call the owner to come for it,” he stated.
“I have heard that people’s cards can be used for transactions, but I must say this is impossible because any activities done with the physical card are impossible because nowadays, biometric verification of individuals are taken,” Ben Sackey revealed.
The Western Regional Registration Officer of the National Identification Authority (NIA) further disclosed that the Authority is now registering children under the age of 15.
He noted that although a mass registration exercise was initiated, it was later put on hold. However, their offices remain open for parents and guardians to register their children within this age group.
This costs three hundred and ten cedis (GHC310) at their premium office. He says those who cannot afford can also take advantage to register their wards when the mass registration which is free begins.
